College students at a college in Sydney’s west have been notified of a cyber breach on its IT community, with greater than 7,500 people affected.

Western Sydney College (WSU), which has a number of campuses throughout the western suburbs of Sydney, launched a press release at this time concerning the intrusion.

The unauthorised entry into the college’s IT community was first recognized in January 2024, with the community shutdown shortly and measures had been put into place.

An investigation was launched and WSU uncovered that the earliest recognized entry was on Might 17 2023, by means of WSU’s Microsoft Workplace 365.

Some SharePoint recordsdata and emails had been accessed, and WSU’s Photo voltaic Automotive Laboratory was recognized as presumably being “used as a part of the incident”.

The college has notified the 7,500 people who had been affected by the breach, whereas sustaining there had been “no threats obtained by the College” regarding the non-public info.
