Barbie dolls will honour Canadian soccer star Christine Sinclair and tennis champion Venus Williams, plus seven different athletes, as a part of a venture introduced by Mattel on Wednesday.
The others being depicted as dolls as a part of the sixty fifth anniversary celebration for Barbie are gymnasts Rebeca Andrade of Brazil and Alexa Moreno of Mexico, Aussie soccer participant Mary Fowler, French boxer Estelle Mossely, Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini, Spanish paratriathlete Susana Rodriguez, and monitor and discipline sprinter Ewa Swoboda of Poland.
“All through my profession, I’ve all the time been pushed by the concept of shattering glass ceilings and staying true to myself, and Barbie’s mission could not resonate extra deeply with that ethos,” stated Williams, who has received seven Grand Slam singles titles.
Sinclair was acknowledged by Mattel for being the main worldwide scorer in ladies’s soccer, with 190 targets in 331 appearances for Canada. The Burnaby, B.C., native made her nationwide group debut in 2000, bowing out with a closing match in December in opposition to Australia infront of over 48,000 followers at Vancouver’s BC Place, renamed Christine Sinclair Place for the event.
“By shining a lightweight on these inspirational athletes and their tales, we hope to champion the assumption that each younger woman deserves the chance to pursue her passions and switch her desires into actuality,” stated Krista Berger, senior vice- president of Barbie and Mattel’s World Head of Dolls.
